The
computer literacy programme was started in
2011 on an experimental basis in villages.
Each centre hosts 2-3 PCs, inverter with
batteries, printer, computer tables and
chairs. The objective is to impart basic
computer skills to rural children to:
1. bridge the urban and rural divide in the
field of information technology
2. access to information to improve life in
villages
Currently nine centres are functional in
village Maniagar (Almora), Gogina (Bageshwar),
Pati (Champawat), Badhani (Chamoli),
Bhanyani-Ganai Gangoli (Pithoragarh), Danya
(Almora), Chaundali (Chamoli), Bamiyala (Chamoli)
and Gangolgaon (Chamoli). A two months course
has been developed to make children computer
literate. In some villages the CBO has also
taken the initiative to start advanced
courses for children. All children in the
villages and its surrounding areas attend
the centre, in batches. The programme makes
children familiar with basic computer
hardware and its components, maintenance,
word processing, Hindi and English typing,
painting, printing a document etc.
Each child gets at least 30 minutes to work
freely on a computer. It is an after-school
activity. |
